DIVIS supports
Environmental protection organization Wilderness International
Vincent Schöning
Employee at Wilderness International and former DIVIS team member.
The environmental protection organization Wilderness International was founded in 2008 in Germany and Canada. The team dedicates its daily work to the legally secure purchase of ecologically valuable and acutely threatened forest and wilderness areas around the world in order to protect and preserve them for the future.
Sustainability to protect the environment is one of our company's core values. Unfortunately, in our field of activity, it is not possible to avoid using transportation such as cars and planes 100% of the time. What we can do, however, is to create a balance. That is why we support the organization with our donation to protect wilderness areas and thus contribute to the preservation of natural habitats.
Our former employee Vincent Schöning joined the organization in October of this year, driven by a deep fascination for nature. At the environmental protection organization, he can combine his strengths with his passion. We are delighted that Vincent has found his calling and are supporting the organization's valuable work with a donation.
More about the organization
Interview with Wilderness International
We spoke to Vincent Schöning about the organization's goals and current challenges.
- If you had to describe the organization in three words, what would they be and why?
In three words: transparent, effective, committed.
Transparent, because with us every donation is traceable down to the last square meter. For just 1 euro, one square meter of rainforest is permanently protected. This allows our supporters to see exactly how much area they have preserved together with us. We also communicate the use of the donations openly and clearly.
Effectively, as our impact report impressively shows. In addition, our work has been awarded the prestigious Phineo “Wirkt!” seal - the “Oscar for NGOs”.
Committed, because at Wilderness International you can immediately feel the passion for the cause. Rarely have I experienced an organization that is so united behind its mission, that does so much good with so much energy and tackles things with such determination. This enthusiasm is truly catching and simply inspiring.
- Is there a particular success story or project that particularly touches you personally?
I am less touched by a single project than by the diversity and scope of the commitment of the people who support us. From the student who donates 5 euros of his pocket money to grow the community forest of his favorite YouTube creator, to multinational companies that are committed to protecting our nature.
Conservation can sometimes feel like tilting at windmills. But it's incredibly motivating to see how many people have realized that we urgently need to make a change when it comes to how we treat our planet - and to take action accordingly, at all levels, from small to large.
- What exactly do the donations achieve locally?
That is very diverse. Above all, the donations help us to refinance the purchase of land in order to leave nature there untouched forever. At Wilderness International, we secure every piece of land with a land register entry, which guarantees long-term protection. This sets our mission apart from many tree planting campaigns, where this conservation guarantee is not always given. By protecting natural areas, we preserve valuable habitats, promote biodiversity and contribute to the reduction of CO2. Nature does the rest by itself - for example, by providing us with clean air and fresh drinking water.
In addition to the ecological aspects, the donations also create jobs for local and indigenous communities. This happens, for example, through our forest guardian program or the awarding of scholarships.
Another example is our agroforestry project. Here, we work with families who live in the immediate vicinity of our protected areas to find out how they can use their land sustainably. This enables them to secure their livelihoods without having to deforest the land for agriculture or livestock farming.
- What makes additional support so effective at this time?
The last wilderness areas on our planet are under immense pressure due to deforestation and overexploitation. Once such a habitat has been destroyed, it is irreversibly lost. The protection of intact forests is therefore of central importance in countering both the climate crisis and the loss of biodiversity.
These ecosystems ultimately ensure our livelihoods and form the foundation for a future worth living.
Why we are joining the mission to protect the Misty Forest in Canada
The temperate rainforest in British Columbia is the last large contiguous area of its kind in the world - an area of inestimable value for the climate, biodiversity and the future of our planet. And yet British Columbia, of all places, is one of the last jurisdictions in the world that continues to allow large-scale deforestation of 600 to 1,800-year-old primeval forest giants.
Would you like to support this organization?
Every donation helps!
We would be delighted if you are determined to make a contribution in the form of a donation, regardless of the amount, because every euro counts!
