Green Logistics with video solutions from DIVIS
One system, double benefit: more environmentally friendly processes as well as reduced operating costs
Bordesholm, 1 June, 2022
Sustainability has long been a determining factor in many industries, also in logistics. Due to the steadily growing globalisation, companies increasingly feel responsible to act not only economically, but also ecologically. Thus, the typical business goals, such as reducing operating costs and increasing profits, are no longer the only driving aspects.
A company policy geared towards green logistics also aims to protect the environment as much as possible at the same time.
Thanks to powerful software solutions, including the video management solutions from DIVIS, high volumes of goods can now be reliably routed through the supply chain in the shortest possible time. Simultaneously, the software-supported optimisations are an important building block for more climate-friendly logistics processes.
In this article, we show you how our CargoVIS video management system for palletised shipments can contribute to sustainability in your company.
Among the reasons why Green Logistics is already omnipresent in the transport sector is a simple realisation: "Green" measures can not only protect the environment, but also lead to financial savings.
The situation is quite different in intralogistics, especially in goods handling. Although there is also a high potential for green logistics here, it is still untapped in many logistics halls. In intralogistics, the use of sustainable product packaging or reusable load carriers not only produces a smaller ecological footprint, but also reduces costs.
The same applies to the use of video management solutions from DIVIS. Our systems streamline processes and help to lower energy consumption.
"Green" measures can not only protect the environment, but also lead to financial savings.

A glance at the statistics reveals:
On average, almost 50 percent of the energy in a logistics facility flows into the hall's conveyor, storage and order-picking technology. But the second place should not be underestimated either. With a share of 35 percent, heating, cooling or ventilating the logistics hall are among the largest electricity consumers. Lighting accounts for another 15 per cent.
With one third of the total demand, temperature regulation is one of the most important adjusting screws in energy consumption. Conscious, software-supported energy management not only makes a difference for the environment, but also in terms of operating costs. For example, by having a better overview of the condition of the loading gates, it is possible to avoid unoccupied gates of a heated warehouse remaining open for too long and thus wasting energy.
CargoVIS makes this optimisation potential visible and reveals ineffective processes. At the same time, our software can be flexibly adapted to the individual needs of your cross dock.
OPTIMISATION POTENTIAL #1
Gate+: Energy wasted by open gates
The use of our Gate+ software module for gate status analysis pays off in several ways. The application automatically detects the gate and door states (open or closed) and thus enables effective energy management.
Unintentional heat losses can be avoided in heated logistics warehouses as well as cold losses in refrigerated warehouses.
Coordinating the trucks to be unloaded or loaded also becomes much easier thanks to the improved overview with Gate+.
Finally, a further advantage can be seen in security and the reduction of theft rates: With the help of Gate+, it is possible to determine at any time whether doors that should be closed for security reasons are inadvertently open.
The advantages of Gate+ for sustainable logistics at a glance
- Gate statuses available at any time
- Increased energy efficiency through reduced gate opening times
- Less theft due to improved control of gate openings
- More effective planning through quick detection of unoccupied gates
OPTIMISATION POTENTIAL #2
Location+ for scanner location
Precise indoor location with our Location+ software module helps to quickly and accurately track down missing consignments. The search by foot or forklift in the hall, which consumes personnel resources as well as energy and fuel, is simply no longer necessary.
How it works:
As a package passes through the logistics hall, the barcode of the consignment is scanned at each individual processing step. The data is recorded in the background and automatically linked by our video management software with the location and video data of the goods. This creates a seamless movement path of the package through the hall.
Using the consignment or package number, goods can now be conveniently located on the PC in the software. In addition to the position, our software also provides visual information on the appearance, size, and condition of the consignment.
Thanks to Location+, your employees know the exact location of the consignment and know what the goods look like when they head for them in the hall.
